BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Citation Corporation was recognized as a top supplier at the Holland Neway International (HNI) Supplier Conference, held May 24 in Muskegon, Michigan. Citation was recognized for their work in converting and developing fabricated/welded parts to ductile iron castings. The announcement was made by Bill Wakefield, Vice President, HNI's Trailer Air Suspension Business Unit.

Citation's Director of Sales, Tony Lovell said, "The business relationship began over a year ago and has opened several mutually beneficial opportunities. The cast iron equalizing beam conversion is a great example of how our resources can be utilized to optimize the design to fit our process."

In an effort to meet cost and weight targets, Citation's conversion process on the beam consisted of several design/analysis iterations supported by world-class prototyping through their foundry. HNI kicked off the building of the production tooling for the cast part in May. By utilizing the cast iron beam, HNI will realize significant cost and weight savings and will market the new design as a proprietary component.

HNI's Wakefield recognized Citation for demonstrating excellence in cost reduction ideas, weight reduction ideas, design and technology improvement suggestions, alternative material, product expertise, proprietary product and commitment to working with HNI as a development partner. "Going forward, our most successful suppliers will be the ones who offer us meaningful and proactive design and material alternatives, as Citation has done," Wakefield said.

Citation's Dave Gribben, Account Manager, Industrial Sales and Marketing, coordinated the redesign effort by Citation's engineering design group in Detroit and Citation's Foundry Service based in Biscoe, N.C. The North Carolina foundry will be the supplying plant to HNI.
